I never know how to reply to compliments

for instance when someone tell me I have nice hair:
I’d either be suspicious and go “Um, thanks?” — which makes me come off as an ungrateful bitch
or I’d go, “No I don’t! You have much nicer hair!” — which sometimes comes off as insincere
it’s a no-win scenario
I mean, I could just go the simple route, and say “Thanks!” — but it doesn’t seem like enough. Part of me feels obligated to say complimentary in return.
my most successful exchange went something like this:
Girl: Wow, I love your shoes, they look so good on you!
Me: Thanks, you’re so sweet! I love your…. (looks for something to compliment)…hair! It’s so curly…and volumey! And yeah…just wow!
for the record, I did like her hair. I just came off as creepy and insincere.

i have the best siblings ever

usually we’re all snarky and sarcastic towards one another, and that’s the way we like it
but there are days when they’ll be so incredibly sweet and caring
like: how my eldest sister treats me every time we eat/go out somewhere together. without fail. she doesn’t have to — it’s not her duty or responsibility or anything — but she just does (minus point though: she scoffs whenever I offer to treat her to anything).
like a few days ago: when I had no one to accompany me to this book fair I desperately wanted to go to, I asked my brother on a whim whether he would follow me, and he said yes immediately despite the fact that he’s not a reader, to out it mildly. he simply decided to accompany me because I wanted him to.
like just now: my other brother just came into my room and asked if I have anything to eat for dinner. when I said not really, he asked if I wanted him to cook something for me.
the things I’ve mentioned above are just the tip of the iceburg. the four of us argue and quibble a lot, but I have no doubt that we love and adore one another, and we’ll stick together no matter what etc etc.
but thank god they don’t know my tumblr nick because I would absolutely die if they realized I was writing mushy stuff about them.

I don’t like chocolates/chocolate-flavoured anything half as much as people seem to think I do
I mean, I can’t resist nutella in any form, yes, but
my favourite flavour of everything is still vanilla
I LOVE VANILLA

when I’m nervous, I tend to talk at superspeed

I have literally left people with their jaws dropped, trying to assimilate what I just said
my friends and family are the only ones who can decipher me
it gets so bad sometimes, like when I’m giving a presentation in class
and I can see my friends in the audience going
the funny thing is that most of the time I don’t even realize I’m doing it
I just talk fast okay

I bite my nails sometimes

I know, I know, that’s a filthy habit, etc
I was raised in a family of nail-biters, so no surprise I became one as well
when I was young, I bit my nails compulsively
then one day I looked at my nails
(or rather what was left of them)
and decided then and there that I was. going. to. stop.
and I did
it wasn’t easy though, but then I found the miracle solution — a no-more-biting nail polish
no really
it’s this super bitter nail polish so whenever I bit my nails, I had to spit it out
it was gross and frustrating so naturally I stopped
operant conditioning, etc etc
now I still bite my nails, but only occasionally
like when I’m worrying over something, usually a paper I’m writing
like when I’m reading something, usually on my laptop
I’m biting my fingernails now, jsyk

I’ve never dyed my hair

not do I have any plans to. I have long black hair (though if you’re feeling romantic, you might refer to it as “dark brown” or maybe “with streaks of brown under the sun”), and where I come from, almost everyone has natural black hair. lots of people dye their hair blonde or brown or red or pink to ~differentiate themselves from the masses, and while I have no problem with that, I don’t intend to do the same.

though if you asked me what colour I would dye it if I were inclined to, red is most definitely what I would go for.

I have the strangest fascination and attraction to red hair, or people with.

sometimes late at night when I can’t sleep, I would replay past conversations I’ve had in my head

and think about the things I wish I’d said instead
like that one old man who’d looked me up and down, and then proceeded to lick his lips
I wish I’d said something other than “eww oh my god”
he deserved at least a “fuck off loser”
or that time I bumped into my ex, who had told his friends I was a super bitch when we broke up
he didn’t look so good and looked like he was on drugs
and then we proceeded to have the most inane, most fake!friendly conversation about how good we’re doing and how great life is going
wish I’d said, “look at your life, look at your choices” instead
also, let’s talk about every guy I’d fancied who had asked for my number
I’m so used to gross jerks doing it than when a guy I actually like does it, I get frazzled
and would basically go, “um, yeah, no thanks”
